That's not a tree

Back in high school, my friends and I thought that the item on the right side of the image above was a stage prop displaying the low budget, a tree, in the Monty Python and the Holy Grail movie. I went and saw this movie in the movie theater last night and was surprised to learn that's not a tree, but some sort of crucifix (see the enlarged portion with the outline of the body traced).
